Adderall is a drug used to control children and adults age six and up who suffer from ADD or ADHD. It is a slow release medication and typically lasts twelve hours. The active ingriedients in Adderall are dexroamphtamine saccharate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, aspartate (racemic d/l-amphetamine), and sulfate (racemic d/l-amphetamine). These amphetamines are psychostimulants that produce increased wakefulness, energy, and self-confidence. They also decrease fatigue and appetite.

Adderall is prescribed to people in doses ranging from five to thirty milligrams. The longer the drug is used the higher the dose must become, because users become immune to the pill, so they need a higher amount of the medication in order to experience the same effects.

Adderall has been used for over seventy years and has become more and more popular in the past decade. Over 50 million prescriptions have been written for Adderall since 1996 and the numbers are continuing to grow. It is estimated that 4-12% of all children have ADD/ADHD and Adderall is the most common drug treatment.
