ADD stands for Attention Defecit Disorder and ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. There is no physical test for either disorders, rather a meeting and observation with a doctor. For someone to have either disorder the symptoms must have started early in life, and have been around for at least six months. Both are neurobiological disorders and there is no known cause. It is also the most common psychological disorder in children and in many cases, its severity decreases with age.

The three main syptoms of ADD and ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The difference between the two disorders is that ADHD is more severe than ADD. ADHD is more of a hyperactive disorder where a person cannot sit still or concentrate. ADD is not so much that a person cannot sit still, but they have problems focusing and doing schoolwork. Both disorders make school very difficult for children. In some cases, children will act up in class and cause disruptions. Other times, children fall behind because they cannot understand and cannot focus on concepts or readings.
